Cozy Fantasy and Fantasy Romance Books I Can't Stop Recommending

If you're anything like me, there's nothing better than curling up with a blanket, a cup of coffee, and a fantasy novel that completely pulls you into another world. Whether you love dragons, magical kingdoms, deadly trials, fairy realms, or classic wizarding adventures, these are some of my favorite fantasy books and series.

I've read every book on this list and genuinely enjoyed them all for different reasons.

1. Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros

If I had to pick a favorite from this list, it would probably be Fourth Wing.

This series has everything I love in fantasy: high stakes, incredible tension, a vulnerable underdog heroine, dragon riders, political intrigue, and one of the most addictive enemies-to-lovers romances I've ever read.

Violet begins the story as someone most people underestimate. She isn't the strongest candidate and isn't expected to survive the brutal rider training program, which makes every victory feel hard-earned and satisfying.

The dragon-riding world is immersive, the action is thrilling, and the romance is intense. Be aware that this series contains mature content and is definitely intended for adult readers.

If you enjoy fantasy worlds packed with danger, adventure, and romance, this is an easy recommendation.

I'm already counting down the days until Rebecca Yarros releases her next book.

2. Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas

If you loved Fourth Wing, there's a good chance you'll enjoy Throne of Glass as well.

Instead of dragon riders, this series follows a deadly assassin who is forced to compete in a brutal competition to become the king's champion. What begins as a deadly tournament evolves into a sprawling fantasy adventure filled with dark magic, political intrigue, ancient mysteries, and unforgettable characters.

While romance certainly plays a role, I found this series to be more focused on action, mystery, and large-scale storytelling than romance alone.

The series grows considerably in scope as it progresses, and each book expands the world in exciting ways. If you enjoy fantasy quests, magical battles, and strong character arcs, it's well worth the commitment.

3. A Court of Thorns and Roses (ACOTAR) by Sarah J. Maas

I plan to reread this series again this year.

ACOTAR is one of those series that completely immerses you in its magical world. Filled with fairy courts, ancient magic, political alliances, and unforgettable characters, it's easy to understand why so many readers fall in love with these books.

The romance is deeply emotional and incredibly rewarding, while the fantasy elements continue to grow larger and more complex throughout the series. I would also comment that this is another book for adults only.

Unlike Violet in Fourth Wing, Feyre isn't really written as an underdog. She is strong, determined, resourceful, and consistently rises to the challenges in front of her.

The later books also feature large-scale conflicts and war, which add plenty of excitement and tension.

If you enjoy fantasy romance filled with magic, adventure, and powerful emotional payoffs, this series belongs on your reading list.

4. Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling

No fantasy recommendation list feels complete without Harry Potter.

These books have become classics for a reason.

Rowling is exceptionally talented at creating a sense of wonder and mystery while making readers feel completely at home in her world. Hogwarts remains one of the coziest settings in fantasy literature, yet the series also delivers suspense, danger, and some genuinely emotional moments.

One of the things I admire most is the way each book slowly unfolds its mysteries. Readers constantly feel like they're uncovering secrets alongside the characters.

The series does get longer and more complex as it progresses, so it may feel intimidating to newer readers. But all seven books are absolutely worth the journey.

5. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

While technically dystopian rather than traditional fantasy, The Hunger Games deserves a spot on this list.

Katniss Everdeen remains one of the most compelling protagonists I've ever read. The story combines survival, political rebellion, heart-pounding action, and memorable relationships into an unforgettable series.

If you've somehow missed these books, they're absolutely worth picking up.

And yes, the movies are fantastic too.

6. Twilight by Stephenie Meyer

Another modern classic.

Whether you discovered this series during the original craze or are picking it up for the first time, Twilight remains one of the most influential paranormal fantasy romances ever written.

The story is easy to read, highly immersive, and perfect for readers who enjoy romance with supernatural elements.

Like The Hunger Games, it's one of those series that most fantasy and romance readers have at least heard of, but if you haven't read it yet, it's worth experiencing for yourself before watching the movies.

Final Thoughts

Fantasy means something different to everyone.

Some readers want dragons and epic battles. Others want magical schools, fairy courts, or impossible love stories. Personally, I enjoy books that combine adventure, emotional stakes, wonder, and characters worth rooting for.

If you're looking for a place to start, I'd recommend Fourth Wing, Throne of Glass, or A Court of Thorns and Roses. Those three series have completely consumed my reading life at different points, and I'd happily read them all again.

And if you're already a fantasy reader, I'd love to hear your recommendations. What fantasy book kept you up far too late because you couldn't stop turning pages?
